£3,500 for Tenant Whose Health was Affected by Damp and Mould

25/04/2025

A tenant whose health was adversely affected by damp and mould in his property has secured compensation from his housing provider.

Over several years, the man had made a number of complaints about damp and mould. Mould growth was reported in multiple rooms of the property. However, the housing provider did not take adequate steps to address these problems.

He eventually developed a respiratory condition. His symptoms worsened, and he had to increase his use of the inhalers he was prescribed.

He brought a claim for compensation for the damage to his health and for housing disrepair. A medical assessment established that the damp and mould had aggravated his chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. His claim was successful and he received a settlement of £3,500.
