A young man has obtained a substantial compensation settlement after a car he was travelling in was hit by a lorry, leaving him with life-changing injuries.
He and four friends were on their way back to university from a sports tournament when the accident happened. One of his friends was killed in the collision, and he and his other friends sustained severe head injuries.
He was rushed to hospital, where he underwent a craniotomy. After a period of intensive monitoring, he was moved to a neurological ward. Despite undergoing rehabilitation, he continues to suffer from serious disabilities including damage to his vision and hearing, cognitive impairments and persistent sleep disturbances. He was also left with psychological injuries. The lorry driver was later convicted of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving.
A claim was brought against the lorry driver and his insurer, and interim payments were secured to fund the young man’s care and rehabilitation. A settlement of nearly £5.9 million was subsequently negotiated.
