Charities Lose Music Right Exemption

Charity trustees should note that from 1 January 2011, the exemption from having to have a performing rights licence from the Phonographic Performance Ltd (PPL), or PRS for Music (commonly know as Performing Rights Society) is abolished.

Accordingly when there is a public broadcast of music which is subject to copyright, the appropriate licence must be held.
