A pensioner who suffered a traumatic brain injury after being hit by a car has received substantial compensation.

She was out walking her dog when the car suddenly mounted the pavement and hit her. Her dog was killed and she was left unconscious. She suffered serious injuries including a skull fracture and a brain haemorrhage, and was in hospital for two weeks.

She was left with a traumatic brain injury. Her symptoms include tiredness and lack of energy, short-term memory and concentration issues, and difficulty sleeping.

The driver of the car had left the scene of the accident without stopping but was subsequently traced. A claim was therefore brought against the driver’s insurer. Evidence was obtained from medical experts and interim payments were secured to provide the woman with occupational therapy and support to help her recovery.

A settlement of £830,000 was negotiated before her case came to trial. The settlement reflects the extent of her injuries and the impact they have had on her life, as well as the care and support she will need in the future.
