EPCs – New Proposals

28/01/2010

Following a consultation exercise, the Department for Communities and Local Government has outlined the measures relating to the use of energy performance certificates (EPCs). Further changes are expected over the next few years.

Of more pressing importance to commercial property owners are the following:

Access to the register of EPCs is to be made publicly available. This will include the address of the property, its energy rating and receomendations for improvements.

Advertisements for the sale or letting of property should include the property’s EPC rating.

In addition, the Government is considering a proposal that on the sale or letting of a building, the EPC should be provided at the earliest possible opportunity in the transaction, not, as now, on completion.
