Interim payments have been secured for a man who suffered a devastating stroke after failings by an NHS trust.
The man was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation after being admitted to hospital with COVID-19. However, he was not treated with blood thinners and no proper follow-up was arranged. Ten weeks later, he suffered a severe stroke. He was left profoundly disabled and now needs around-the-clock care.
A claim was brought on his behalf against the NHS trust responsible for the hospital. The NHS trust admitted liability and accepted that his stroke should have been prevented. Interim payments were secured to help pay for his care costs.
A final settlement of his claim has yet to be agreed but, given the severity of his disability and the lifelong care he will need, it is likely that he will receive a multi-million-pound sum in compensation.
