Pleural Plaques Bill Reintroduced

09/12/2009

The Government has reintroduced the Damages (Asbestos-related Conditions) Bill into Parliament after it failed to reach the statute books before Parliament went into recess last summer.

The bill will overturn the House of Lords decision that asymptomatic pleural plaques (a thickening of lung tissue associated with exposure to asbestos) will be a basis for bringing an action for personal injury.

The Scottish Parliament has already enacted a similar law.
