Simplification of Personal Injury Claims Regime Suggested

25/11/2010

The Government’s concern with the growth of the ‘compensation culture’, and the accompanying costs, has led to a review suggesting changes to reduce the cost of dealing with compensation claims and to speed up the process.

Among the recommendations made of relevance to small businesses are:

  • A simplified claims procedure to cover all personal injury claims under £10,000, similar to that recently introduced for motor accidents;

  • Consideration  should be given to extending the simplified claims system for road traffic and personal injury claims to an upper limit of £25,000; and

  • A restriction in the activities of referral agencies for personal injury claims.
